COMESA programmes to benefit Swaziland

Swaziland will benefit from various programs under COMESA, which are to be rolled out in the course of the year.
Secretary General of the regional trade bloc Sindiso Ngwenya said his organisation would be launching various development programmes from which Swaziland and other members stand to benefit. He said he would soon be signing for one of such programmes in Belgium, which centres around food security.
Sponsored
He said in addition to this, the country also stood to benefit from a seed programme sponsored by the Swiss Development Corporation to the tune of $5 million. He maintained that the aim of COMESA is to see true development taking place in the region. “The bloc has just taken over management of the 33 million pound Fund from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), and this is money that is being used to foster further development in the region,” he said. Minister for Commerce, Industry and Trade Jabulile Mashwama the country’s hosting of the COMESA summit would bring with it a lot of business opportunities as top business people from the entire COMESA region will be in the country to share ideas with locals. “The gathering would enable us to explore ways through which we could increase market access to the bloc and ensure the development of our economies. Swaziland takes great pleasure in being able to host such events,” she said.
